I believe that you shouldn't have to know about bikes to enjoy riding them! And sometimes this means that people need the help of someone not invested in making a sale to help them know what they are looking at. I have heard too many stories of people wanting to buy a bike but being talked down to and not listened to at shops. And too many stories of people buying a bike that ultimately doesn't fit or doesn't fit their needs.

I can help by talking with you to help you figure out what you are looking for, or what you want to be different from your current bike. I can help you cut through all the technical jargon and understand what different components will do for you, when it's important to know about them and when it really doesn't matter. How to know if a bike fits. And for used bikes, how to know if expensive wear items are worn out, if the components needed for the bike are still readily available (or if they are obsolete), if it has been damaged in an accident, and the telltale markers for if it has been stolen.

My expertise is pretty limited to city/ commuter bikes and touring bikes. If you are looking for a road racing bike or a mountain bike my services won't be very helpful.
