1 hour yarn spinning lesson

30

30 per hour - - Posted Oct 05, 2017

I will teach you the basics of spinning with a drop spindle, specifically a turkish spindle. I'll provide a spindle to get you started, 5 grams of wool roving, and a cheat-sheet for you to take notes on. Lessons are in my home outside of Buckley, WA. When you go home, you'll have created your very own first yarn, from roving through setting the twist. And you'll still have more roving to practice on!

Training & Qualifications

I started spinning in 2014 with a homemade, poorly-balanced spindle that was not constructed well, using raw cashmere from my goats (fiber length of about 1/2"). By some miracle, I stuck with it, and kept experimenting, finding easier and easier ways to spin. Now I use well-balanced turkish spindles, and have found roving that is very easy to spin from.

About Ashley Wright

I'm a wife, mother, musician, teacher, farmer, fiber artist, homesteader, cheesemaker, braintanner, basket and rug weaver, and soap maker. I have 2 small children, so getting out is difficult for me,... but will for important things. On my farm, I have chickens, ducks, guineas, goats, an alpaca and a miniature horse. I collect eggs from the birds, my husband butchers our excess animals for our freezer, I milk my goats, and use fiber from the goats and the alpaca. I love teaching! See a skill here that you'd like to learn? I can probably teach it! Let's talk!show more
