45-min violin or viola lesson
Whether you are a complete beginner or just looking to get back into playing your violin after some time away, I will help you design a practice routine to get your skills up. Assessment and exercises in bow hold, posture, ear training, repertoire, general musicianship and improvisation can all be provided depending on your unique needs. My background is in classical music, and I am a certified Suzuki violin and viola instructor, so I draw a lot from that. However, I am also keenly interested in how the violin can find a home in other modalities, and am willing to explore this with each student. If you come to my music studio, I can also tune and examine your instrument. Don't have one? Feel free to ask me about rentals.
Available to teach in-person (ideal). Skype lessons may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Training & Qualifications
I am a certified suzuki violin and viola teacher, and a professional musician and singer with a degree in psychology and music. I began studying viola at the age of four as a Suzuki student and continued my studies through university under the tutelage of then-symphony violinist Aaron Au. I also completed training in Suzuki violin and viola instruction in 2012 and have been teaching ever since. Out of the teaching studio I have over 20 years of performance experience singing in choirs and playing in various classical, roots & jazz ensembles, as well as a background in West African drumming & music. Though my roots are in classical music I have a keen interest in contemporary and folk music from around the world.
