Simple Electronics Design & Repair

25

25 per unit - - Posted Feb 24, 2017

I will design a simple electronic system for you, or repair a simple electronic device you already own.

-------------------------------------
Outcomes:
-------------------------------------

For locals who want designs, I will provide the digital design documents in both PDF and Altium format. As well as building the physical circuits, I can order the PCBs upon request and assemble them as well. You must pay any production and part fees in this case, as that isn't provided in the service. This is strictly designing and programming the systems for you.

For locals who want repairs, I will absorb all base material costs, like solder, flux, and up to five small parts like LEDs, diodes, resistors, and small ceramic capacitors. More intensive repairs will necessitate that you pay for parts, as parts can become very expensive.

-------------------------------------
Examples of Projects
-------------------------------------

Solder Reflow Oven Controller
Automatic Garden Watering System
MIDI-Controlled Devices
Ex) Convert a Rock Band drum kit to MIDI

If it's on instructables under the Arduino section especially, I can make it, but I always make my own unique designs and solutions.

-------------------------------------
Disclaimer
-------------------------------------

I will never charge for the service itself, only required parts for assembly or repairs. In the case that your service you intend to exchange is very worthwhile, I would be willing to absorb part costs up to $50.00. This would be discussed when you offer your trade, and I'm willing to trade additional extras in your service for part costs. Due to the nature of even small scale production costs, I cannot cover those charges for you. Expect that a PCB manufacturing run will cost you approximately $100.00, or up to $250.00 for a larger or more complicated board requiring additional layers. Most boards will be made using SMD components, unless you request otherwise. Board sizes will vary depending on your project. I currently have access to multiple 3D Printers, and have lots of AutoCAD and SolidWorks experience in designing enclosures for your circuits. That is not offered directly in this service, however I am open to discussion on adding it to the service upon request.

Electronics designs requiring lots of programming are not offered here, due to the time involvement. I can design and build both pure analog systems and Arduino or PIC based microcontroller powered systems for you. I'm not familiar with ARM, Xilinx, Lattice, or most other processors at this time, but I technically can design a development board for you if you intend to program one yourself.

-------------------------------------
Estimated Time Investment
-------------------------------------

Many of these projects will take up to 30 hours of work to fully design, so expect to wait at least two weeks for designs.

Repairs typically range from 3-8 hours, and will be completed within a week of drop off.

Training & Qualifications

I am currently completing my last year of college in electronics engineering. I also ran a business in electronics repair and modifications for over 9 years prior to beginning my formal studies.

About Wesley Savoie

Hey, I'm Wesley, Electronics Extraordinaire. I ran a small business in electronics repair for over 9 years, and dealt with many customers during that time. I mostly repaired computers and small con...sumer electronics, as well as adding modifications to devices. This included modifying gaming consoles, thus allowing them to do things they weren't supposed to, like play backup copies of your games. I closed my business in order to attend college for Electronics Engineering Technology, allowing me to further cultivate my abilities in electronics design and repair. I have designed over 20 electronic systems for personal use during that time, and I am familiar with Atmel's ATmega chips in both assembly and through the Arduino libraries, as well as Microchip's PIC microcontrollers through both assembly and XC8 C in the MPLABX environment. I'm also a hobbyist musician with about 4 years of guitar practice under my belt. I've recently taken up the Violin, Mandolin, Harmonica, and Piano as well. Stringed instruments always seem to translate easily across each other, and I have a history with youth Piano lessons. As a result, the wind instruments are what's giving me the most problems, as well as bowing cleanly on my Violin. I'm always interested in lessons for music! Separate from playing instruments, I'm also a well practiced singer, and I've received many legitimate compliments on my singing ability. I have a small thrown-together band as well in which I sing lead, though it is nameless at this time. Back to instruments, thanks to my technical skills, I have picked up luthier skills very easily and I do maintenance and small repairs for my own instruments. Electronics are of course my strongest point, and I can easily rebuild a cheap knockoff guitar's electronics to make it sound substantially more like the genuine article. Lights are no issue either, among many other enhancements I'm capable of adding. I'm generally referred to as knowledgeable and outspoken, though very friendly, so no need to be shy. Send me a message and let's see what we can do for each other!show more
