Hoop-Dancing Lessons for Beginners
I have been a hooper (hoop-dancer) for over four years, and also make custom hoops for a local business! I am offering lessons for people who would like to learn how to hoop and incorporate a fun, exciting hobby into their daily routine that will also provide great exercise and entertainment!
With mindful dieting and commitment to the art of hooping, I lost nearly 70 lbs. when I first started. No joke! I should also mention that I was never good at keeping up a hula-hoop growing up, so even if you *think* you can't learn, I'm telling you that YES! You absolutely can! And I am here to show you how!
Hooping involves a lot of tricks and elements that can work out nearly every part of your body. You burn 100 calories every ten minutes that you spend hooping, and that is just waist-hooping; imagine how much exercise you'll be getting utilizing not just your core, but also your glutes, legs, arms, chest, and shoulders to manipulate the hoop, all the while having a fun time dancing.
You will learn spatial awareness, control and coordination, and tone and tighten your muscles with a hobby that is kind to your body, but still offers as many benefits as other dance forms and methods of exercise!
I will teach you proper stretching, positioning for beginners, how to maintain hoop momentum, how to perform on-the-body and off-the-body tricks, and help you find your element so that you have a balance of technique and flow that is unique to you as a hooper. I will also give some fun hoop circuits that will allow you to target which parts of your body you would like to focus your exercise on.
If you do not own a hoop, a variety of hoops can and will be provided every lesson! I strongly recommend using my hoops if the hoop you own is a weighted hoop from an exercise kit; more often than not, they are too cumbersome to really work with, and their fixed weight will make a lot of tricks harder to learn, as well as cause more-than-necessary bruising and strain. I'll recommend sizes according to your needs for every trick and move we will go over, as different tricks and hooping styles will call for different sized hoops to learn/execute them with ease. I am still learning many tricks myself, so there will always be something new to teach every lesson!
I can teach at the comfort of your own backyard, or we can meet in a public park or field! I am mobile and willing to travel within 25 miles to teach!
