Ask a Homeschooled Kid

5

5 per session - Virtual OK

Homeschooling is a great opportunity to spend time with your kids while they're still young. It's also great for fostering independent thinking, self-motivation and discipline, and good values. Many people are interested in homeschooling their kids but want to know more.

I can answer any and all questions you may have about homeschooling from the kid's perspective.
We can talk about curriculums I used, learning math and science, religion's role in homeschooling, social activities I was a part of, SAT/ACTs/APs, getting into college as a homeschooled kid, and anything else you can think of.

We can talk on the phone or though Skype for 30 minutes, chat through an app such as Line or plain SMS for 5 questions, or you can email me up to 5 questions and I can answer thoughtfully and thoroughly for you. I'm flexible any way you want to do it!

Training & Qualifications

I was homeschooled from the age of 4 until 17 by a single mom. Those years will always be a fond memory, especially when it comes to spending time with my mother and sister, learning ice skating and swimming, and doing schoolwork at my own pace.

In my senior year of high school I applied to 16 colleges and got into 14, including Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute, and the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. I received a full-tuition scholarship to a top ten engineering school.
Currently I am in my third year of college, studying computer science in a co-op based school. I am on the Dean's List and work several hours a week at the campus tutoring center.

About Tya Chuanromanee

I'm a fourth year computer science student at a co-op school. I've been coding since elementary school and am still enjoying it! In addition to writing code, I also love teaching and research. I can h...elp you with your website, script, homework, or I can teach you some programming. Before college, I was homeschooled all my K-12 years (preschool doesn't count!). I loved those years of being homeschooled and being able to learn things that I wanted at my own pace. And my experience did not set me back academically at all. In fact, I was offered many scholarships when applying for college, and accepted a full-tuition scholarship to a top-ranked engineering school in the Midwest. I'm a second generation Thai-American, born and raised in the USA. I can understand, speak, read, and write Thai pretty well. I know what it's like to have to reconcile cultural differences when dealing with the outside world vs home, and what it feels like to "not be Asian enough." I'm nonbinary, which means I'm neither a dude or a lady. I've been out for a few years now, and I generally present as masculine of center. While I'm trans, I'm also Christian. I went through things like being outed, being harassed because of my presentation, being othered, being kicked out of the bathroom, and being rejected by a church community. However, the bright side is that I'm a member of a very accepting community now! You can ask me anything about my experience or my identity in general in my service below! I'm looking forward to meeting you and sharing our experiences together. Hit me up!show more
