About Talha Khan

I have experience working in camps as a counsellor and University of Toronto as a teachers’ assistant. I have become accustomed to working with, mentoring, and managing diverse groups. For example, I ...was involved in teaching a Practicum in Environmental Project Management. Student groups were given hand-on projects to conduct research on sustainability or conservation efforts in the Peel area. As a teacher’s assistant, my role was to guide students and help them to develop practical solutions to the research problems given. Moreover, I helped them shape meaningful and impactful presentations on their research, as well as evaluating their projects. My underlying focus in these positions is to help people understand their roles as unique, self-defined leaders. Helping individuals to connect and develop together is an integral part of my mindset towards my roles, and inspiring others to reflect and grow is one of my life’s passions. Additionally, as a member of the community and a strong advocate of climate change and human equity, I am currently a volunteer at Conscious Minds Co-operative (CMC). CMC is a youth organization focused on building strong and healthy communities that are educated and empowered in the face of climate change and human rights issues. We also organize and facilitate a 2-week summer camp for youth interested in environmental and human equity advocacy with a focus on community building and personal development. My work with CMC requires me to play multiple roles within the organization because we are primarily run by dedicated volunteers that care about developing our community. My current role and responsibilities include planning and implementing multiple projects smoothly, creating internal governance and decision-making structures, creating and facilitating programming, providing emotional support to members, awareness of members’ barriers and capacities for work, facilitating group dialogs and conflict resolution, event space set-up and cleaning, networking with potential collaborators and organizations, and promoting our events and youth summer camp. show more
