Shan is passionate about and dedicated to her work in the field of professional education. Over the past decade, she has worked with PreK-12 students and adult learners, in both the U.S.A. and abroad. She feels grateful to have chosen a career that provides her with opportunities to share her love of literacy, to celebrate diversity, and to promote world citizenship. She is a founding Colorado Educator Voice Fellow and believes that building leadership capacity, at every level of the education system, is essential to increasing student achievement, overall. Shan and her husband moved to Colorado from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in 2013. During her seven years in Dubai, she taught at a vibrant international school that was deeply rooted in a culture of kindness. With 98 different nationalities represented among its 2,300 students and a faculty body from 22 countries, she was surrounded by a unique amount of ethnic, religious, racial, cultural, linguistic, political, and philosophical diversity. She is an avid reader, a life-long learning enthusiast, and has traveled to seven continents, five oceans, and over 50 countries. When stateside, Shan and her husband currently reside in the historic neighborhood of Five Points, in downtown Denver.
