Friend for Dementia Patient

- - Posted Jul 26, 2016

I have a mother in law who is agoraphobic, socially anxious, and depressed who has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and frontemporal lobe dementia. She's so lonely that she cried when her occupational therapist had to end sessions after an injury because she had recovered so well. It was as if a friend had dumped her.

Despite her obvious loneliness I cannot get her to leave the house for the senior center, as the idea of it terrifies her. I'm hoping someone can come over for half an hour each week or bi-weekly in order to keep her company.

About Robin Wagner

All of my life I have been the kind of person that people just want to talk to. Even in elementary school I would wind up being an amateur therapist at the back of the bus, talking kids through proble...ms as simple as friendship issues or as complicated as wanting to run away from home. I've never charged money for my talents, but am always the go-to person when a friend or family member (or friend of friend or friend of family member) needs an empathetic ear or sound advice. I've been through many walks of life, have had many struggles and tribulations, and can relate to a variety of people and situations. This includes: Growing up around addicts and domestic abuse. Surviving sexual abuse. Navigating poverty as a child. Coming out of the closet. Managing successful long term relationships. Utilizing positive parenting to raise a confident and happy child. Learning to disentangle myself from a conservative and authoritarian religion. Learning to stop being shy and make friends easily. Helping those around me with anxiety disorder, panic disorder, or depression calm down and feel loved and secure. Do you struggle with any of these? Perhaps something different? Let's have a conversation and see if I can be of any service to you. I am also a great companion if you ever need a friend, or want to get a drink (even tea or coffee). I laugh easily and can connect with nearly everyone. Finally, I'm a passionate home cook and can make for you a variety of foods from around the world.show more
