About Quoc Duong
I'm the creative problem solving type with idealistic tendencies. I've been working with non-profits for three years now. Although I love helping people in a non-profit environment, I've learned that ...most non-profits are built on establish and well-known archetypes, so they don't really need problem solvers. During my years at the University of Alaska Anchorage, I learned that I was really interested in complex systems as an English Major, and those studies brought me closer to an interest in computer science. Some people might think it's a stretch, but really there's a lot of over lap in English Theory and Computer Science. Slang, for instance, could be thought about in terms of a variable (the short hand) that equate to another variable (the actual word) that equals to a function or definition. Object Oriented programming is just a practical way of thinking about the world that happened to fit very well into computer science, and I find this sort of thing very exciting. I'm currently learning C#, AngularJS, Entity Framework and SQL at Coder Camp, and have a firm understanding of Javascript, HTML, and CSS. In my spare time I like to perform music and write. I have three publications; two are with Understory by the University of Alaska, one of which won the Hayden Carruth Award, and the third is with Cirque Magazine. I've also been noted as an enjoyable violist by the Anchorage Daily New. show more
