Blood (Donation) Buddy
Afraid of needles? Squeamish around blood? So was I! No big deal; you just need some extra support there to take your mind off of things.
I will accompany you to the Canadian Blood Services clinic on Oak Street in Vancouver to help you through your first donation (doesn't have to be the first!). Other Lower Mainland clinics may work too depending on my schedule.
I will chat with you in advance to help you mentally prepare for the donation process, answer any questions you may have, and help you register for a whole blood donation. If you'd like me to be there for the actual donation, we'll figure out a mutually agreeable time, and possibly arrange a meet beforehand for coffee if you feel like you need some day-of prep time.
When you're in the chair, I'll distract you, bring you cookies and juice, and answer any questions you may have. I'll even share some secret techniques to make your donation go faster! If you feel lightheaded, I'll get the nurse and they'll make sure your needs are attended to until you feel up to it. Before that though, I'll be sure to help you take a photo so you can paste it all over social media. It'll encourage your friends to donate and make you look like a superstar!
I've been donating platelets and other blood products for over a decade, with this post marking my 149th lifetime donation. This offer is a way to help me celebrate my 150th donation (scheduled for March 23, 2017).
Training & Qualifications
A 149-time donor, a first-aider, and an excellent seeker of the best cookies and juice boxes that Canadian Blood Services provides gratis with every visit. I'm pretty good storytelling too, so if you need a distraction, I'm your man!
Availability & Preferences
Varies, but I'm at the Oak Street clinic every second Thursday from 16:45 to 18:00, so booking around those times is an instant approval from me (as I'll already be there)!
