About Nia Imani

I am not just an artist but rather a vessel. When asked to describe the type of art I created I often stumble, so If I am to use the labels passed on through communities of Artist and Art lovers a...like I would most easily claim Storytelling. In all mediums of my artistic expression there is, inlaid a message. Be it Painting, where I become one with the brush depicting stories of pain, sorrow, joy, happiness, maybe even new beginnings or endings. I adopt the following titles depending on the message being conveyed. I could be called a Designer, Visual artist, Muralist, or even a Sculptor; I've dabbled in various combinations of mixed mediums as well. Perhaps I am describing my musical expression; I sing songs of creation and pass down the rhythms, poetry, and blues' of my ancestors through my instrumentation or poetic verse. My main instrument is the Steel Pan; I can also play Trap Set, various Rhythm and Melodic Percussions, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bass, Guitar, and Piano. On some of which, I was classical trained. I'm currently studying the art of sound design and production so that I can add "the console" to that list. Lastly, I practice Culinary Art in my spare time; cooking, baking and molding palettes that elicit an array of emotions from the eater. I throughly enjoy creation and mimicking styles, while respecting those that came before me, in order to tell new stories that may be passed down through the generations to come in a language communicable by all.
