Recruiter POV Resume Feedback
2
You provide:
- Example listing(s) of the role(s) you are seeking (can be an expired listing)
- Current draft of resume, cover letter, or LinkedIn profile
- Any and all questions. No charge for anything I can answer in a few minutes, and I’ll let you know otherwise. I love to help 🙂
You get:
- ~15 mins of written resume suggestions based on quick skim, reading it as a recruiter would
- A quote for the scope and cost of additional help I could offer
TECH RESUME EXAMPLE FEEDBACK:
This demonstrates a solid list of relevant technologies for frontend/fullstack, and could stand out more if it went into more detail on the specifics of what you built. ie "Used Nuxt to build a seamless UX and robust performance" > "Built shop page from scratch with 5ms load time and virtual scroll on pages with 10,000+ items. Time to checkout decreased by 5 minutes due to simplified UX"
Then the impression the resume gives is not just "FE dev" in a sea of other "FE dev"'s with the same technologies listed but "FE dev that excels at performance optimization and prioritizes business metrics"
You can make room for these details by replacing "fluff" like the multiple uses of "cohesive user interface/ styling", and redundant points like the 2 under BusinessCo that say the same thing, and trimming down overflow lines with only 1-2 words in it
Also consider making the resume 1 column instead of 2 so that ATS's can parse it more easily
So for the quote I would want to start with the "full" base package (N simbi) which encompasses reformatting to 1 column and 1 rewrite of an experience where I go back and forth with you for a bit and then rewrite. Typically I work on the most recent exp as that's the most relevant/ critical one, so BusinessCo for you. Then if you'd like help with any of the other ones, that'd be 1 "add on" each (N simbi each).
NON TECH EXAMPLE RESUME FEEDBACK:
I think your resume is good as a general resume but can be tailored more towards finance intern roles. This is done by going into much deeper detail on your relevant finance experience and showing these near the top while cutting back on less-relevant experiences.
As a reader I'm scanning for times when you did something similar to or exactly the same as what they are asking for in the job ad. so I see "Manages ongoing financial and budgeting process for the non-profit organization". Did you analyze large datasets? did you perform market research? did you do financial forecasting? and at what impact/ scale?
So for the quote I wouldn't do any significant reformatting, so I wouldn't charge the usual "base package" and work on each experience rewrite at N simbi each. We would informally go back and forth for a bit where I ask you for more details on your finance experience and then I'll rewrite. We could start topmost experience and then from there you can decide if you can handle the rest or buy more rewrites.
Training & Qualifications
- Screened hundreds of software engineering resumes, shepherded candidates through interview rounds, and matched 8 hires to teams at an SF bay area startup for one summer intern hiring season
- Written resumes for dozens of friends and acquaintances, particularly for new grad/ industry software engineers/product managers, retail fields, and career changers into tech. They’ve anecdotally told me they have gotten more callbacks
- Learning about people through their career accomplishments and coming up with punchy resume sentences is really fun to me!
- While I will be strongest at writing resumes for early career software engineers since I am one myself, I can help with any profession given a sample job listing to write the resume against
- This is an informal service that does not explicitly incorporate resume scanning software (ATS) optimization
