German Transcription/Translation

Do you have old letters, birth certificates, family records, or anything else handwritten in old German script, with no idea what they say? Or do you need anything translated from German to English? I will transcribe and/or translate your material for you. If you send me a scan of the material and tell me how many total pages you have, I will estimate how long it will take me to complete your project (the estimate will depend on legibility of the scan, and the length and difficulty of the source material). With handwritten materials, I can transcribe them into "normal" font only, or transcribe and translate them into English as well (of course, it will take longer to do both). One hour minimum.
Training & Qualifications
I have an M.A. in Linguistics and a second M.A. in German, and have taken several classes and seminars in deciphering, transcribing and translating all kinds of old German writing, from medieval scripts to modern typeface (Fraktur) and handwriting (Suetterlin). In addition, I spent a summer touring and studying in church and government archives in Germany. My completed projects have ranged in size from a single postcard to a 500-page diary.

I can work on your project weeknights and weekends (and sometimes at my day job...sssshhhhhh don't tell my boss!).
