About Laurenne Hom
Some people take a lifetime to figure out what they truly enjoy doing—not what you're good at, but what you savor. At age 22, I found out I was a writer, a pretty bad one. It was something I had stru...ggled with and never really understood until a friend who's a journalist begged me to let him edit my blog posts before going live. I was so embarrassed that I vowed to teach myself. It started with an armful of books from the library. I learned about grammar, sentence structure, style, tone, cadence, syntax, and proper punctuation. Since I was a natural traveler and a learned writer, I joined Matador Network's travel writing program. I quickly fell out of love with the cliches and empty rhetoric, but at least I was getting experience. I continued writing for my own travel blog and began pursuing a novel until I found editing. I've always been good at telling people what they're doing wrong, so editing came naturally. The key to great editing is being able to put yourself in the reader's frame of mind, so you will understand which points are confusing, what's hard to read, and where there are questions unanswered. Though I have fewer years under my belt, I have an intense dedication to learning and a natural inclindation, which has proved me to be a better editor than some who have been at it for years.show moreOpen to other proposals
