About Kai Murphey
I am a graduate student at the University of Columbia (Mizzou) working toward my PhD in Neurobiology and Animal Behavior. I recently completed my Bachelors in Wildlife and Conservation Biology with a minor in Environmental Education. I'm very knowledgeable in the field of science, especially as it relates to the natural world, and I have practical experience working with animals in multiple settings. I've done laboratory animal care, wildlife rehabilitation, spent a summer mucking out horse stalls, cared for exotics used in education programs, and I've fostered and trained strays and ferals.
Despite my skill with animals, I'm terrible with plants. I plan on growing a garden this season, and will likely be looking for help and advice. I'm also a new home owner, and my home is a bit of a fixer-upper. I have home improvement project plans and may be looking for assistance with plumbing, electric, etc in the near future. I'm also a single parent to a child with special needs, and I have pets that will need care when I travel.
I'm great with computers. I picked up quite a bit from my father who is an IT specialist with the Geek Squad and a Web Designer. I have experience working with Final Cut Pro, am a bit of an artist (animal portraits), and I excel in Excel ;). In between my undergraduate and graduate schooling, I worked as a Quality Systems Supervisor at a candle factory and assisted with the design and implementation of various Access databases and auto-generated statistical reports for our customers. I type very fast and have worked various data entry positions, and I provide very thorough peer-reviews for papers and essays.
