Private Fencing Coach (Foil/Epee)

My lessons provide the basics for new students in the Olympic sport of fencing. I tailor my lessons to each student's needs as an athlete and what they're wanting to accomplish within the sport.

Training & Qualifications


I am a certified coach with the United States Fencing Coaches Association and a professional member of the USFA. I am certified as a "Moniteur" in Foil and Epee, two styles of fencing, and am qualified to teach intro to intermediate levels of those two styles. I have had the opportunity to study my craft under the tutelage of several Olympians, including Gary Vanderwege (US Paralympic Team 2012) and John Moreau (US Olympic Fencing Team 1984, 1988)

Availability & Preferences


I am available in the evenings every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the Texas State University Campus in San Marcos.

About James Basler

My Name is James Basler. I am a graduate student at Texas State University - San Marcos studying cultural anthropology with an emphasis on understanding social patterns within the LGBT+ Community. I a...m an experienced researcher, both in library and fieldwork settings, with training in qualitative methodologies. Presently I am working on several private writing and research projects to expand my experience level and pursue academic interests. I am also a professional member of the United States Fencing Association (USFA) and United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA), with nationally recognized training in risk mitigation through the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). I served as the head of a USFA club at Texas State University and am experienced at mentoring student athletes and managing large scale events. Most recently I have been elected as Vice Chair of the South Texas Division of the USFA. I greatly enjoy reading, writing, and teaching others in academic settings and expanding the public's knowledge on LGBT issues, Autism spectrum, and the sport of Fencing.show more
