Hello! My name is Hilary Buchanan Underwood. I was born and raised in the Western Carolina Mountains and this has been my home for 23 years.
I never thought I would be in Public Relations. My dreams were to be a website designer, a vector artist, or even an interior designer. However, I was inspired by my Public Speaking professor, Dr. Hamlett from Brevard College, in Brevard, NC. He wrote speeches for politicians, hosted political events, and helped with campaigning.
After taking his class and working on a particular project about the LGBTQA+ community, I felt that I was able to change the attitudes and behaviors of people in the class through education and passion. After that, I unlocked my confidence and began walking in the footsteps of Dr. Hamlett as a role model.
Over time, I’ve developed my feelings and political ideals while being a political science minor. I’ve always wanted to change the phrase “Political leaders are corrupt,” or “I don’t like politicians,” into something positive. I want to be able to have political leaders help and prove that they help their communities and people. My goal is to work for a political figure and be able to portray him or her be genuine and fresh, not tucked under the white powdered wig that most people stereo typically assume.
My life philosophy is “always push forward and remember the past to not repeat the future,” because we need to know history so we do not repeat ourselves, but always push forward to be better.
