Feline Diabetes, FIV, & FeLV Advice
I'm here to help with any questions you may have about feline diabetes, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV). Whether you have a cat that was recently diagnosed, are you're trying to help a stray, or if you are considering adopting a cat and you want to understand what these conditions mean and how they would effect your life, I can help you. Or maybe you're just curious and want to have knowledge of these conditions.
I can exlain:
- what each condition means biologically
- how a cat gets it
- how it is diagnosed
- whether or not it is contagious and in what ways
- how it effects the cat's quality of life and life expectancy
- treatment options
And perhaps most importantly for some, I can offer moral support, personal advice, and empathy to those faced with caring for a cat with any of these conditions. It can be overwhelming and downright scary to hear that a beloved pet or the sweet stray you're trying to help is "sick", but with strong knowledge and a good support system everything can be much less scary and totally doable!
We can talk via Simbi messaging. You can start by telling me your individual situation and any questions you have. I will make sure you have the right information and hopefully when we're done you will feel empowered and hopeful!
Training & Qualifications
I am NOT a vet nor have I had any formal veterinary training. Talking to me certainly can not replace the wisdom of a vet.
However, there are actually an alarming number of vets out there who are not properly educated particularly on the topic of FIV and FeLV. There is a lot of out of date and misunderstood information out there regarding these viruses.
I volunteered at a cat-only no-kill no-cage shelter for over 3 years that specializes exclusively in cats that have either FIV or FeLV (or both). I have 3 cats. One is condition-free, one has FIV, and one has both FeLV and diabetes. I have done a lot of research and been surrounded by people with many years of experience dealing with these conditions. I have a close relationship with my vet, who founded the cat shelter.
Availability & Preferences
I'm usually free nights and weekends.
