Irish Tin Whistle Lessons
I will teach you how to play the Irish tin whistle, aka penny whistle. The tin whistle is a fantastic instrument to learn if you love Celtic music and want to learn an affordable and easy to maintain instrument. I offer 60 minute lessons over Skype that will cover the basics of playing the tin whistle using traditional Irish techniques. I will provide sheet music to accompany our lesson with the fingerings listed under each note, so you won't have to worry if you can't read sheet music. I will teach you how to incorporate special Irish techniques called ornamentation into your playing including: cuts, taps, long and short rolls, slides and finger vibrato. This will take your playing to the next level and allow you to feel like you're truly playing an ancient, beautiful ethnic instrument, not just a glorified recorder! I would be very happy to introduce you to the world of Irish music, no other music can invoke such emotion as traditional Irish music!
Training & Qualifications
I play many different ethnic instruments including native american flute and ocarina, but my favorite instruments to play are my Irish instruments. I play the tin whistle, the low (bass) tin whistle and the Irish drum (bodhran). Although I've only been playing the tin whistle for a couple years, I've progressed quickly thanks to a very simple teaching method that I can now pass onto you. Here are some samples of my tin whistle and low whistle. Enjoy!
