How to make and spin Poi balls
15
Poi is an ancient implement used in traditional New Zealand Polynesian dancing. The modern form is often done with lights, or with fire. There are many groups that practice on beaches, in parks, in deserts, and some at raves. I'm offering a workshop where you will make your own poi out of rope, paper towels, plastic bags, rubber bands, and fabric. Following that I will teach a few basic moves and concepts. Poi comes from a highly community based history but a lot of it you can teach yourself. This is an introduction course that supplies everything you need to establish a fun, challenging and often spiritual experience.
Training & Qualifications
I've been dancing with and without poi for about 10 years. I've performed at large gatherings and at small weddings and parties. The past year I've been focusing on poi exclusively and am training to begin spinning with fire.
