I am a law school graduate from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, currently pursuing a Master's of Arts Administration, completing my coursework this May 2016. In law school my focus was intellectual property, specifically in the sports and entertainment industry. As a former athlete and current artist, I identify with issues that arise in the arts & entertainment industry and, unfortunately, it is often the case that many artists and arts organizations don't have the knowledge or adequate representation to protect themselves. I want to help be a part of bridging that gap.
I also enjoy areas of nonprofit and arts policy and education, and exploring creative placemaking opportunities for artists, arts organizations, and government arts projects. Additionally, facilitating the development of performing arts centers and finding interesting ways of welcoming new, and retaining existing, audiences to the arts is a an exciting subject and area of interest for me. I also find education to be of great importance to me, from school-aged children to adults, education is empowerment.
Through my work and academic experiences, I have developed a diverse skill set that is applicable to the creative sector in various capacities, including performance, administration/management, branding, marketing, development, and sales. I enjoy working in these areas personally, not just professionally.
I want to help create opportunities, and inspire others to do the same. As such, I ultimately hope to be a brand, whose mission is the inspiration and creation of works that further an appreciation of the African Diaspora and other, often underrepresented, groups. As such, I create music and poetry, and perform as Sister Malikah. And Candy, By Nature, provides a natural alternative to skincare & makeup and hair care needs. Because what we put on our bodies is just as important as what we put in, I create my products from the pure ingredients that grow in our backyard.
