I've been a journalist for 15 years now, and spent a third of my career producing videos. I also gave a TED talk this year, and I am not kidding.
I am a journalist from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. In 2006 I was a co-founder of Kloop Media Foundation, the organization that runs Kloop.kg, one of the leading news websites in Kyrgyzstan today. The cool th...ing about Kloop.kg is that most of its authors are people aged 14 to 25, who are trained in our journalism school and then do mind-blowing things like investigating corruption in the government or covering human rights violations. Kloop.kg turned out to be so cool that I even gave a talk about it at TED2016, becoming the first Central Asian ever to give a TED talk. I have dedicated most of my grown-up life to Kloop.kg as an editor-in-chief. In 2014 I gave all the power away to the next generation, and started focusing on international projects - I have been covering the revolution and the war in Ukraine since February 2014, and I also travelled to the USA to produce a series of stories about hi-tech startups. In my nearest future I plan to dedicate a lot of time to my new startup called Viximity - a service that allows media outlets to hire camera operators in any part of the world and to coordinate their work in real-time. My ultimate dream is to improve the level of education in Kyrgyzstan - especially high school education.show more
