About Becki Yukman

I'm somewhat of an enigma in that I love pursuits all across the spectrum, from photography and sewing to singing and mountain biking. I also just graduated with a double major in computer science and... theater, so engaging both halves of my brain is clearly important to me. Programming itself is a great way to do this because it requires creativity and logic. I have a passion for tutoring STEM and teaching coding because of their relevance to everything and their lucrative nature, especially for women and minorities who are underrepresented in the field. What's wonderful about the job market right now is the fact that there are 4-5 jobs available for each graduate, so many companies are willing to hire proficient programmers even without degrees. My language of choice is Java and my specialty is User Interface Design with Accessability and Computability, Logic, & Discrete Mathematics. Going back to the theater, I've also spent a lifetime auditioning and performing. I have studied just about every element of theater, including singing and dancing, and am always eager to share my enthusiasm with others. I find I can engage both halves of my brain here too, as costume construction and being a stagehand require thoughtful calculations. I'm thinking of becoming a teacher. I have always enjoyed hanging out with children and engaging with their curiosity. I babysat regularly for 2 families throughout high school and miss that interaction with the next generation. I'd be thrilled to have another opportunity to work on my teaching ability or my competency with children. I've lost many of my regular tutoring students to summer break, so I have a lot of availability! show more
