45 min subject/analysis tutoring

40

40 per session - Virtual OK - Posted Nov 16, 2016

I'm offering a 1-hour tutoring session for a topic in history or help with critical analysis.

I've studied various topics in Antique, Late Antique, and Medieval European history as well as sociolinguistics and European linguistics as part of my degree. I can tutor at a high school or undergraduate college level for the humanities and for some social sciences, and I can help with understanding how to critically analyse material at a university level. If you're interested in learning more about the history of the English language, would like a conversation about sociopolitics and religion in the medieval world, or just really need to figure out the Fall of the Roman Republic for your upcoming midterm, I'm here for you.

If you're interested, I'd like to know in advance what topic you'd like to discuss so I can tell you if it's out of the scope of my ability or knowledge. If I can help you, I'll give you an outline of what I'll cover during our hour through chat before our scheduled session time.

Training & Qualifications

I'm a fourth year Classical Languages & Lit, Medieval Studies, and Linguistics triple major at UC Santa Barbara with a 3.98 GPA; I studied history at Cambridge University in England during my junior year abroad and received 1st class marks. I've tutored university level history and writing independently for 4 years and currently work as a writing tutor for the University of California. .

I'm here because I quite like the skills exchange model. I think it's much better at creating community than monetary exchange, and I guess digitising favours was the next step

Send me a letter or a postcard!
Mail from wherever you are, with the weirdest stamp(s) you can find. I love to send postcards, so if you would rather get one from me in exchange let me know! I have the new coastal birds postcard...

About Andy Chen

full time student! I study linguistics, classics, and Byzantine history. I've just gotten back from a year abroad in England and now I'm finishing up my degree. I freelance as an illustrator and work ...as a librarian and writing tutor. I love exploring cities, learning languages, eating food, geeking out about fine stationary, and talking about anything and everything. I vehemently dislike 17th century flemish landscape paintings. My favourite authors are John le Carré, Nabokov, and Umberto Eco. show more
