Post-childbirth Planning
50
I can help new and expectant parents develop a working plan to make sure they will have their needs met after their baby comes. Though each family has unique needs, having a general plan for post-birth life can help to ensure that the core essentials of daily life are tended to. This helps to prevent burn out, unnecessary stress, and general sense of overwhelm. Most new families spend a lot of time preparing for the birth, but neglect to put much thought into what happens once they're actually living day-to-day with a new baby. Post-birth planning can help alleviate stress and give the family a better sense of confidence on navigating life with a newborn.
The planning session could include:
developing a schedule for friends and family to come help,
advanced planning meals and snacks,
facilitating communication to establish priorities and expectations after baby comes,
developing list of appropriate referrals for post-birth care, including lactation specialists, body-work practitioners, family therapists with a specialty of working with families with very young children,
creating a sleep schedule to ensure that everyone gets at least 6 hours of sleep per 24-hour period,
baby-care advice,
breast feeding advice,
insights about which kinds of supplies and baby-gear would be most suitable for your family,
and any customized information that may pertain to your specific situation.
