Wire Jewelry for Beginners

25

25 per session - Virtual OK - Posted May 22, 2017

If you're like me, you love the feeling of creating something with your hands. As a web developer and teacher, I was finding that I didn't spend as much time as I would have liked creating tangible products. I love the creative outlet that making jewelry has provided me with and would like to help others get started making their own! Whether you're interested in picking up a new hobby or starting a creative business, I'd be happy to show you the ropes of wire jewelry making!

Sessions will be 30 to 45 minutes in length (conducted via Skype or phone) and cover the following:

- explanation of basic tools
- beginner techniques
- benefits and challenges of working with various metals
- recommendations for sourcing materials
- advice on pricing
- wire jewelry artists to follow
- resources for more in-depth training

Training & Qualifications

I've been creating jewelry made from wire, beads, and laser cut wood for a while now. I dug through tons and tons of videos and blog posts to get up to speed on the basic tools and skills. I sell my pieces in a couple of stores and to friends on the side.

About Aisha Blake

Hello! Firstly, I'm a bit of a completionist. I love video games and travel and theatre and singing. Not sure how some of those could be turned into services, but it gives you a kind of snapshot of wh...o I am. I came to Detroit first as a couchsurfer and then, to live, as a full-time volunteer. Now, I'm in the process of rehabbing a two-family flat that I plan to use as a Couch House. If you've been thinking about visiting Detroit, and even more so if that sounds scary to you, we should talk! I wear a whole lot of hats, so I can help you with a lot of different things! I'm a professional web developer and coding instructor. I have experience in several programming languages, but JavaScript is my first love. I do lots of WordPress and Shopify sites for my clients, so I have a handle on PHP and Liquid as well as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I care passionately about web accessibility, which is often overlooked until it becomes a serious issue for someone trying to use a particular website. It would've taken me much longer to understand just how important accessibility in general is without the companionship of New York's goalball team (which you should absolutely Google). I also make jewelry from laser cut wood, beads, and wire. This is my primary creative outlet and one of the very few tangible things I get to make. I'm always looking for new fun, nerdy shapes and ideas to make into jewelry, so you should shoot me a message if you'd like to see something in wire jewelry form!show more
