My landlord just switched wash machines in my house and I'm convinced the new(used) on is infested with mold (from past experiences and google). However, the only response I got was that it was detergent build up. I'm looking at someone who is very knowledgable on the topic (an "expert") that can look at some pictures and let me know their opinion.
